@uncfieldhockey won its 9th national championship in program history and third championship in a row on Sunday after a thrilling overtime win over Michigan.
The game was played at Karen Shelton Stadium in Chapel Hill, marking the first time UNC has won a championship on its home turf since women’s soccer did so in 1993.
The game was won when UNC star Erin Matson, the three-time reigning ACC Offensive Player of the Year, scored off a penalty corner in the first period of overtime.
All nine of UNC’s titles have come under the leadership of head coach Karen Shelton, whom the stadium is named after.
