Today is
#Juneteenth, a day of observance that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in 1865. On Saturday, the Charles E. Brown African American Cultural Center of ISU, in collaboration with the Dept. of African American Studies, the Black Faculty & Staff Caucus, and Office of Multicultural Services & Programs, hosted a Juneteenth celebration to mark this important date. A dynamic panel of faculty, students, and community activists presented to discuss the meaning of freedom and the significance of Juneteenth, which became a federal holiday in 2021.
Indiana State thanks all those who attended and participated in Saturday's wonderful event. We wish everyone a peaceful and joyous day of reflection and remembrance as we continue our observance of Juneteenth and celebrate this historic moment in our nation's struggle for freedom and independence for all.
