Saturday’s match featuring Los Angeles FC (2) and Real Salt Lake (1) was a rematch of the MLS Cup Knockout Round match that saw 3 seed LAFC handed a 3-2 upset loss at the hands of RSL. The grudge match began as expected, with the assumedly stronger team, LAFC, controlling possession and creating chance after chance. They were clearly still thinking about their shocking early exit from last year’s MLS Cup Playoffs and played with a little extra fire and grit. RSL was not one to roll over and take the beating LAFC was hoping for, and returned the fire in kind. The result was a chippy match which saw a total of 7 yellow cards and a red card, with four yellow cards shown in the first 25 minutes.
