The first-ever El Trafico coincided with Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s arrival at lagalaxy, and throughout the next two years, this fixture seemed to make the mythic Swedish striker shift into a higher gear. In the six times that LAFC and LA Galaxy met in the past two seasons, Ibrahimovic found the back of the net nine times, failing to score in only one of those matches. LAFC were certainly Zlatan’s favorite victim in MLS, but it would be unfair to talk about El Trafico without mentioning Carlos Vela. Both players gave us spectacular performances, and it was pure entertainment to see both of them sparr on and off the field. Their competitive rivalry was an extension of El Trafico, and it added an extra layer of spice to a budding derby.
