NWSL is Back.
In the opener of the nwsl Fall Series, the washingtonspirit fell 2-1 to skybluefc at Segra Field. Today’s game marked the return of the NWSL since the end of the Challenge Cup in late July, and it did not disappoint. Mal Pugh finally made her debut for Sky Blue FC and was instrumental in her side’s victory. Ifeoma Onumonu opened the score early in the first half with a rocket finish inside the box. Despite solid performances from Ashley Sanchez, Hatch, and McCool, the Spirit were unable to generate many chances to get back into the game. In the 89th minute, though, Paige Nielsen equalized from the spot. Just when it seemed the game would end level, Mal Pugh set up Midge Purce for the game winner in the ‘90+2. All in all, it was a great match to restart the NWSL, and it seems like we are in store for an excellent set of games this fall. Link in bio for the full story.
