Did you know that
@runewark is home to the largest and most comprehensive library and archive of jazz and jazz-related materials in the world? Introducing, the birth of the Institute of Jazz Studies 🎷⬇️
In 1965, acclaimed jazz scholar Marshall Stearns moves the world-famous private collection to Rutgers University-Newark. At Rutgers, it will then grow to be the largest and most comprehensive jazz library and archive on the planet. Ken Burns, a documentary filmmaker who would use the archive as a resource for his 2000 film, Jazz, will refer to it as "one of the world's treasures."
In 1976, Dan Morgenstern, on the left, was named director of the Institute of Jazz Studies, a position he held until 2012. Morgenstern, a Grammy winner for his record notes and a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master, is shown here at a Jazz Institute office with Ed Berger, middle, and Vincent Pelote, right. Pelote is currently the institute's Senior Archivist Digital Preservation Strategist.
